D-Link's DI-524UP is a very reasonably priced wireless router, which also offers print server functionality through the USB port. The DI-524UP is an IEEE 802.11b/g wireless router and features a single dipole antenna for reception.

The DI-524UP is a well designed router that features all industry standard features and offers tight security settings. For security, the router is equipped with WEP and WPA encryption and has support for Firewall. It also features parental control to block a particular URL or domain for LAN users. It supports VPN Pass-Through for secure transfer of data using PPTP, L2TP and IPSEC. The device also features logging for different events and the table is fully configurable. Quick setup wizard is also provided in the web interface and it works well. A soft reset is provided to get the router back to factory defaults.

The DI-524UP's performance is impressive, but limited to a 20 metre zone. The router finished transferring our 350MB assorted data in 3 minutes, 36 seconds within the 10 meter range, which places it third fastest among the eight routers we've tested. At 20 metres it took 4 minutes, 40 seconds, which is good too. However, it was surprising that DI524UP failed in our 30 metre data transfer test and in our range test, too. The results were satisfactory in Qcheck Throughput test as well.

All things considered, the DI-524UP is a well balanced router, offering a good mix of features and performance, and the price is easy on the pocket, too. Retailing for $58, the router is well suited for small businesses, as it has a print server integrated and performs exceptionally well within a 20 metre range.
